It’s no massive secret that one car I have lusted over since for the last 12 months is the Alfa Romeo 4C, well it seems it has just got even more stunning over night with the world premier of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, which was revealed overnight at the North American International Auto Show.
The 4C Spider is powered by an all-aluminium 1750 cc direct-injection, dual interccooled, turbo engine with variable valve timing (VVT) developing 176kW and 350 Nm or torque, paired to the blistering fast Alfa TCT (twin-clutch transmission) and Alfa DNA selector with four adjustable drive modes.
Like all Alfa’s the 4C Spider will have to have the right sound, and the Spider comes with 3 different exhaust systems including one by racing exhaust experts Akrapovič.
On the inside the Spider features two leather trimmed composite framed sport seats with an exposed carbon fibre monocoque a flat bottomed leather trimmed performance steering wheel with paddle shifters, aluminium pedals.
Fully wrapped premium leather interior with accent stitching, carbon fibre vent surrounds and a 7 inch full colour driver information display cluster.
The 4C Spider will come in 6 interior colour combinations and 7 exterior colour including Rosso Alfa, Black, White, Basalt Grey Metallic, Rosso Competizione Tri-coat, Madreperla White Tri-coat and all-new Giallo (yellow).
Sound is via an Alpine premium radio with multiple connectivity and media options, hands free Bluetooth phone, Bluetooth streaming, USB port, iPod interface and CD/MP3 capabilities.
The 4C Spider will ride on 4 new wheel designs, staggered fit 17 x 7.0-inch (front) and 18 x 8.0-inch (rear) alloy wheels in Silver or Dark finish or larger 18 x 7.0-inch (front) and wider 19 x 8.5-inch (rear) forged wheels in Silver or Dark Grey finish. There will also be 4 brake calliper colour choices, including Silver (standard) or available Red, Yellow, or Black as well.
The 4C Spider is not going to be shabby performer partly thanks to it’s relatively light weight carbon fibre monocoque chassis.
This helps the 4C Spider do the 0-100km/h sprint in an estimated 4.1sec on it’s way to a top speed of 257kph.
To keep it on the road the 4C Spider has a double wishbone front suspension and an advanced MacPherson suspension at the rear.
For those enthusiasts wanting to take their 4C to the race track to fully explore it’s performance and handling there’s a track package available.
This package includes high performance shocks, larger front and rear sway bars, larger and staggered fitting 18 x 7-inch (front) 19 x 8.5-inch (rear) forged aluminium wheels with available Pirelli P-Zero “AR Racing” tires.
Performance flat bottom steering wheel with microfibre inserts, carbon fibre exterior mirrors and carbon fibre gauge cluster bezel, plus the availability of Black leather performance seats with microfibre inserts and Red or Yellow accent stitching.
Steering wise Alfa Romeo has done away with power steering altogether the manual steering system features a quick ratio steering of 15:7.1.
It’s no use having a car that goes fast and corners well if the brakes aren’t up to the job the 4C Spiders was designed for track use and will provide a maximum of 1.25 g of braking deceleration.
There’s a massive amount of information I can give you on this car and I really could go on for hours and hours about.
Lets just say that the Alfa 4C and the 4C Spider are at the top of my dream car review list and If I’m a good boy this year maybe Santa will give me one to review for Christmas. One can only hope.
